A reading check-in in one minute. A brain break in two.
Passage Pulse times a 1-minute oral reading fluency check and walks you through comprehension questions. Brain ReCharge finds the right short activity for your class right now. Both run in your browser with nothing to sign up for.
Rhyme Time Freeze
2 minSay a word; students move around the room until you say a rhyming word, then freeze.
Nothing leaves the classroom
Both tools run entirely in the browser. No accounts, no rosters, and no student names or scores are sent anywhere.
Built for a real teaching day
A fluency check takes about three minutes with comprehension. A brain break takes two to eight.
Works alongside your benchmark test
Use Passage Pulse between your DIBELS, Acadience or i-Ready windows to see who is growing.
Passage Pulse
A guided oral reading fluency check-in for grades 1–6, with a comprehension check and printable passages.
Choose a passage
Pick a grade and fiction or nonfiction, or let it choose a random passage the student hasn't practiced.
Run the check-in
Start the 60-second timer while the student reads. Tap any word they misread.
Record the score
See words correct per minute, accuracy and where the student falls on grade-level norms, plus a quick look at error patterns.
Check comprehension
Count retell details and mark four questions to get a simple reading profile.
Pick a grade and drag to a score. This is how Passage Pulse places a result.
Norms: Hasbrouck & Tindal (2017), spring. One check is a snapshot; averaging two unpracticed readings is more reliable.
Brain ReCharge
A stocked drawer of two-to-eight-minute activities for the gap between lessons, the post-lunch slump or the last five minutes before the bell. Filter by grade band and subject, or search for "no materials."
Your benchmark test shows three dots a year. Passage Pulse fills in the line.
Most schools screen reading in fall, winter and spring. Students in intervention need a check far more often than that, and it should take minutes, not a testing window.
Free to use. Worth upgrading.
Every plan includes both tools. Paid plans unlock the full libraries with a license key, so there's still no login.

Things teachers ask
Does Passage Pulse replace DIBELS or Acadience?
No. Keep your district's benchmark screener. Passage Pulse is for the weeks in between: progress monitoring for intervention groups, a quick check before a parent conference, or a second look at a student you're unsure about.
Where do the benchmark bands come from?
Hasbrouck and Tindal's 2017 oral reading fluency norms for grades 1–6, using spring percentiles. A single check is a snapshot, so averaging two readings of unpracticed passages gives a more reliable picture.
What does the student need?
Nothing. The student reads a printed passage or reads from the screen while you tap the words they misread on your device.
If nothing is saved, how do I track progress?
Print the tracking sheet and write each score on it, or copy the result into whatever record your school already uses. That keeps student information where your school already manages it.
What grades do the tools cover?
Passage Pulse has passages for grades 1–6. Brain ReCharge covers K–12 in four grade bands: K–2, 3–5, 6–8 and 9–12.
How does a school pay?
Send a quote request using the form above. We'll reply with a formal quote, accept your purchase order and invoice on net-30 terms. Teachers can pay for the Teacher plan by card.
